The Fitness Department is unique and one of a kind. Fitness activation and movement mobility aids include: stretch cords, exertubes, SPRI bands, TRX Training bands, Resist-A-Balls, BOSU balls, gliding disks, and foam rollers. Strength training goals for all levels can be met with Cybex International, Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, Troy, Magnum and Smith equipment. Conditioning is critical and can be accomplished in many different ways. Racquetball, Full Court Basketball, PreCore Treadmills, PreCore AMT’s, Recumbent and Upright Stationary Bikes, Step mills and Elliptical Machines are available.
Fitness Professionals are available to assist you in reaching all wellness or athletic goals. All members of the staff have degrees in the field along with multiple certifications and many years of experience.
Shinda Obey attended Prairie View A&M University where she obtained a Business Information Systems Degree, Master's Degree in Architectural Community Development and became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She boldly made a career change to fitness and nutrition training three years after graduating from college, which she is relentlessly passionate about. She has been fulfilling this dream for the past ten years. She holds two Personal Training Certifications and a Sports Nutrition Certification. She has also taught Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates classes. She loves keeping her client's workouts and exercises new and exciting through a variety of programs that combine physical as well as mental stimulation. She helps her clients reach their full potential by training them to understand that healthy living is a three point system, exercise, diet and mindset. She also performs fun public speaking seminars encouraging exciting ways for people to adopt healthy lifestyles and volunteers for the Boys and Girls Club of America teaching teens the importance of healthy eating and living. She is also an IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding) Bikini Pro. She is delighted to wake everyday to be engaged in her career
Jana Yowell is a graduate of Cisco High School where she was a two time State Champion in Cross Country and a State Champion in Track. Jana is also a graduate of Texas A&M University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology in 1995. Jana attended Texas A&M on a Cross Country and Track scholarship. She is still an avid runner and has completed 9 marathons, numerous half marathons and triathlons. One of her biggest accomplishments is qualifying and running the prestigious Boston Marathon with a qualifying time of 3:36:15 in 2007. Jana also ran the Boston Marathon in 2008.
Jana has been a fitness professional for over 20 years and joined the Sweetwater Family in 1996. Jana is also a certified Wellness Coach, which allows her to focus on the structure of a proper diet, the relationship between diet and health and the aging process. She specializes in helping clients reach various health and fitness goals, including weight loss with an emphasis on body composition and its relationship to health.
Wai (Sam) Tong is a graduate of University of Houston where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology Exercise Science in 2005. He is certified as a personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) 2005, Personal Training Institute (PTI) 2004 and CPR/AED/First Aide certified by American Red Cross and American Heart Association. He started his fitness career as a personal trainer at the University of Houston in 2004 and joined Sweetwater Country Club as Fitness Specialist in 2005. He has the expertise and knowledge in working with a wide variety of age groups from youth to senior citizens. Sam has a true passion for health and fitness that carries into his work with clients, which will provide you with all the right tools to achieve your goals. Sam has participated in numerous marathons (3), half marathons (9) and Mud Runs (4) since 2005. In addition to Sam’s passion for the fitness industry, he is also a Houston Fire Fighter and EMT.
